ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the sculpture and reading the comment I could easily throw a big laugh on it because I am not used to the idea it shows. Also, I could hardly relate because it implies a different culture from the way of living I use to grow up with, but as a responsible person, I can say that we all really have different ideas and perspective for them it’s their way of life and for sure we, as Filipino’s, who are known for being conservative people, also have our point of view about sex and religion. Throughout this difference, I suggest that we should be broad in our mind set. We should always consider each other’s differences and take destructive criticism or judgment out of the equation. On the other hand, discrimination nowadays, is rampant in the social circle especially in the teenagers. But we can’t blame them who discriminate because they have different upbringing. On the lighter note, it’s good to know that most people today are being open minded regarding this cultural difference. Moreover, respect for each person is a must regardless of his race, nationality, culture and way of life. Indeed, as humans, developing good values regarding this matter should be a big challenge to maintain goodwill.

ReplyDeleteReading the article and seeing that awkward picture, amazingly opened my mind for an instance. The picture itself says stories about how they live their own life based on their culture. However, doing sexual activities in their culture is so acceptable, in that we can't show disagreement and judgement just because we don't like what they are doing. As for me, their way of belief is another way of showing respect to their culture, that's why I can't make any judgement for that.Just because it contradicts my own belief and way of living.Yeah! I can't deny the fact that the picture disgusted me so much, because in my belief sex is a very special gift from GOD, and we just can't play on it. Moreover, I was shocked when I read the part saying that sex and religion are intertwined. Well, that's their belief, and I can't blame them for doing and believing so. At least now, I am aware of their culture and learned something different. :) I learned that every corners and places in this world have their own way of living and belief as long as it can't reach the point of discriminating one another. We just have to be open-minded and respectful. :)

REPULSIVE! It's my first impression upon seeing the sculpture. Maybe because I am not used watching such erotic figures. But knowing the whole thing behind it widens my mind that we really have different beliefs. Besides judging a religion is not our right for it's every culture devotion. Lastly, it's respect that all we need.

ReplyDeleteAs I had open your account, one thing that first captivated me was the picture of the wonderful sculpture of the temple in India which really amazed my sight. But suddenly, when I scrolled it down,I was totally shocked!
I've become speechless for a moment after seeing the picture of the nude sculptures which are actually found inside the temple,a holy place indeed. But I think we don't have the right to criticize them because what they are practicing is part of their culture.Since, they believe that "sex and religion are always intertwined" which is very much different from what we believe as Christians and as Filipinos. As Filipinos,we are conservative in faith and in culture.
So,I guess it is wrong to judge them. What we need to do is to respect one another so that we could have a peaceful life.
And my reaction at first basically depends upon what I believe as a Roman Catholic and I rely in it.I just reacted that way because I belong to a different culture which is very opposite to the Hindus.

growing up in a conservative community, the picture shown in the blog will always seem too lustful!
ReplyDeletehaving different religions, variation in beliefs and principles is a common issue, and that is one of the things we must consider and respect..
however, the sculpture wasn't made to show "kalaswaan" as seen literally, but it was made to express devotion just as how other faithfuls show their's to their respected religions, though in a different way..
lastly, let us not interpret "sex" purely as an immoral act, because as what i have read in my high school book, "sex is good when you do it with love, not with lust..

ReplyDeleteI am glad to have this sharing of expressions regarding to those article.
ahm' when I saw those pictures and read the article I was so dismayed. It said that sex and religion are entwined for them, but for me as a christian I'm not in favor of them because sex is a God's gift that we shouldn't play of.
But on the other side, we cannot blame them because it is their culture and belief. And as a open minded one, we should respect them regardless in our differences in culture and beliefs. :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I open this account, I was actually dumbfounded by the view. It feels like, I have nothing to say, AT ALL.
However, seeing those kind of sculptures made me realize a lot of things. Yeah, it's admitable for those teenage like me to exaggerate too much after seeing those kinds of stuffs specially, if we're not used to it. But, we must put it in our minds how to respect one's Culture and Religion. It was said that, in them: "Sex and religion are always intertwined" unlike us, Catholics. So we must respect others beliefs for us to have a happy and peaceful life. :)

ReplyDeleteafter reading it,I was shocked the way the author presented the sculpture.Questions come into my mind, why sex? Then I realized we had different beliefs to be respected and so we should not quickly judge them.We cant blame them if "sex" are usual because sex and religion of Hindu is being intertwined. It's good to know that most of us Filipino today are being open-minded regarding to the culture of others.

ReplyDeleteHonestly I haven't see already the film of "The Temple of Kama Sutra", but while looking the position of Mithunas ( lovers) the pictures posted above, the first thing on my head is the rudeness of the artist and the people itself. And the second thing is the IMMORALITY of the picture.
But the other part of my mind is the acceptance of the message that the artist try to described and to show the Indian culture.I remember when I read the book of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ,it was all about the India. It stated there the uniqueness of Indian culture and the way they live.
While thinking on my own , I finally understand of their beliefs that "Sex and Religion are always Intertwined", are opposite to what religious beliefs I had. As the Filipino we are quite conservative and sensitive when its come about sex and any pornographic activities , because its IMMORALITY for us .We basis our culture for what the HOLY BIBLE said. And I conclude that every kind of people have their own culture and different beliefs to each other. We need to be an open-minded person so that we can farther understand other people lifestyle and the culture they belong.

The sculpture's very loathsome. I was really shocked after reading the part saying that sex and religion are intertwined, but still we have no right to judge them co'z that's part of their culture. We must respect them as we would like them to do unto us.We just have to be open-minded.

Hi maam :)
ReplyDeleteI've just watched the film this afternoon, and i think most of the students who would see that explicit erotic sculptures would really be disgusted, especially us filipinos since we are known for being conservative. Indeed at first i was also disgusted. but that was because i was raised from a different culture than them , we belong to different cultures and so each of our culture must be respected. on the other side, the sculptures were pretty well-made and the ones who made it really did put effort, but though i cannot really say that their belief of "Sex and Religion are intertwined" is immoral since we all have our different beliefs and culture. And since i really dont have more deeper details about their culture and beliefs, that would be all i can say

The Khajurajo Temple is very unique among all the temples. I've seen even only photographs, the Indian has their unique way of expressing art. They express sex as art of love. Honestly, I kinda don't like the temple because it is very vulgar, with the different sex positions or actions that are shown. But, I respect their beliefs and traditions about this because Indians are really conservative. What they did to the temple I guess was just about the sacredness of sex, though their belief is weird... but, indeed we have the freedom to express things about what's important to us even if it is new or different to other traditions.

ReplyDeletei was wondering how the Indian people created those artworks .that tall building (temple) ornamented or sculpted with unpleasant figures, honestly i don't like seeing it but its their way of patronizing their beliefs.well, beliefs, culture, and tradition varies differently from one another and this explains how we should respect everyone's uniqueness and differences.
upon seeing and reading it,there still a part of me that is happy knowing that our world is abundant in cultures and beliefs,,and you can learn this by exploring not by means of discriminating..i respect their belief "sex and religion are always intertwined" but it does not mean i like it.that temple of kama sutra for it testifies that art really is the "way of expression and an effective way to preserve the art of of expressing"

Hi! Good day Ma’am June
ReplyDeleteDisgusting! The first word came up in my mind as I saw those erotic pictures.
We Filipinos are conservative. For us, temple is a place where we give praise and pray; a holy place. Maybe that’s the reason I can say that it is disgusting. But after I saw the movie, I felt ashamed of what I think because I realized that each of us have different culture and religion. Hindus believe that “sex and religion is always intertwined”. We have no right to judge them, instead, let’s respect one’s another.
Thanks Ma’am. I’m looking forward for your new posts.

ReplyDeleteAfter watching that weird and nasty sculpture, I admired those who deserted efforts hardly. My mind is already open such images.I wasn't shock anymore. On what I have learned, such action must be hidden.Temple must be a Holy place, not vulgarity.Anyway, as human being, I will still honor the indifference of our beliefs & culture.Only God can judge them.

Good day Ma’am!
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the pictures and after reading those articles, I was so shocked, amazed and amused. I can’t believe that India people have that kind of temple. It is full of sculptures that there are men and women that are nudes. As far as I know, Indians are one of the conservative people in the world. Even Indian women are wearing clothes that cover their bodies especially the private parts. But in that sculptures, it clearly display.
But then again it’s their culture and they have specific explanations about those sculptures. We should respect their belief. We have different ways of praising our GOD. They respect us, we must do the same
Thank you!

As I saw those pictures and the video about the temple , my first impression is " ohhhh, shocking sculptures!!" , but I did not really felt disgust about it, i mean Its beautiful! its like a poetry on rocks, its one of a real beauty of life, it shows the passion of love ( or maybe LUST).Its in the Indian culture to worship or honor these sculpture ( the god of fertility). I know we are not used to see or witness those kind of erotic sculpture because we belong in a conservative and christian community. And they have this kind of culture but its doesnt mean that they are liberated and can have sex in public but instead they are also conservative that they prohibited the PDA ( Public Display of Affection). lets just respect their culture as we respect ours!

ReplyDeleteAs I watched the documentary film about the TEMPLE , I was shocked and have a feeling of disbelief to what I saw because I haven't seen a temple before that is surrounded by statues of nude people and different positions in making love. And I can’t believe that a temple like that exist in India. Seeing all those things I feel disgusted because I think that all those things are symbol of immorality. When they say that sex is entwined with their religion, it is another shocking fact for me because it is very much opposite and different from our very own culture. Later on, I realize that I should not judge them and their temple because it is their culture and I have to respect that. I even appreciate their culture because of its uniqueness as well as how the Indians give importance to it. The temple of KHAJURAHU is just a manifestation of the rich and unique culture of the Indians. Maybe, we can say that it is very different but it is their uniqueness that make it popular. Lastly, I must say that we should appreciate and respect each others culture and tradition because it will lead to a harmonious relationship with the different countries in the present and in the future as well.

As a person its nice to know what beliefs, values and culture does a country have. But, when I watch the film about the sculpture of khajuraho (india) I was so disappointed about their traditional doings.Maybe they do these as a sort of praising their god (shiva). As a concern Filipino,we are so very lucky that these doings was not implemented in our country. And Im sure that there is also a good about their traditional culture. We must have to RESPECT all of these.......

What about you? What emotional reactions do you have to the sculpture? Is your reaction a result of cultural attitudes, or is it universal?
ReplyDeleteA pleasant day ma’am,
My emotional reactions of what I have when I saw the sculpture is, I was surprise because I never so a sculpture like what is posted. In fact, the sculptures are nice and explosive. We know it is not easy to make a sculpture like that, right?
For me, it is universal because I believe that we have different culture, religion and beliefs that we must to respect. Thank you and Godspeed.

ReplyDeletethere's no doubt that hindu are having an art which i can say very unique.for so many arts that i have been seen in this world, only their art will surely get the attention of everybody in just one glance .why? it's because it marks at our mind and pasted in our heart that we will forever treasured it.i have to be proud that i knew what hindu are,and what hindu are having right now.i knew that a lot of them after seing the picture\film.will say(yaksss eww nakakadiri,)and so many more.it is their culture and religion are closely together and even we like it or not. it is their life and that how they live for.and each of us is living in our own principle.in addition let us be happy that we have different cultures that we be proud of.for these where we know disregard with the bad thoughts and criticism of others.

For me it is not right to worship at the kamasutra because the sculptures are all about sex. It is not right that sex and religion is one. But with all due respect, the thing that we can only do is to respect their culture. To respect every culture is needed in every country. I don't like their culture because if i only refer to my first impression i can't really picture it out. The sculpture is not good to the eyes of a non-Indian citizen. For us it means bad but for them, these serves as there holy temple.

ReplyDeleteWoow……what an amazing sculpture of Indian people,SPECIALLY in building the Temple of khajuraho and the history of making this such a great and unbelievable temple..By this temple, I could really infer that Indian people do believe that temple is a Home of God, so they considered it as a Holy and Sacred building..
Ahmf,in the other khajuraho sculpture…????Ah, I felt so confusing ---does it really exist?? I mean, this LUSTFUL sculpture. sorry ----but still, it is great….

ReplyDeleteMUSIC. Music for me is life.Life without music is nothing and useless.Ever since I see the world, music is one of the most valuable partner in my journey.
Above all, music truly affects me in all aspects of my life.
Music understands me, amuse me, gives me solutions to my problems, gives me courage, advice, helps me, and bringing me to an adventures.
Music understands me when my mode change because of a thing. Music amuse me when I'm alone, when I'm sad, and when I'm hopeless. Music gives solutions to my problems, gives me courage when I feel I can't do that thing or when I'm awkward with a thing or in a situation.
Music gives advice to me on what to do and what to be. And music also helps me to soar high, to wake up and face all challenges in life with hope and confidence.
